Life In The Jungle is the new, edgy blues release from the Walter Trout Band, featuring Trout on guitar, Vocals and harmonica. Here's a guy with eleven solo albums to his credit, has played lead guitar with Canned Heat, yet is stangely unknown in the United States. The 10 song CD would be worth checking out for the ripping guitar solos alone (how about the brief, but fiery guitar solo "Spacefish"), but Trout proves to be an emotionally charged vocalist (hint, check out "The Mountain Song"), an uncompromising songwriter and ultra-tasty guitar player overall. Rounding out the band are Jim Trapp on bass, Leroy Larson on drums and Dan Abrams on Hammond B3 and grand piano. Not just a bunch of studio cats, the group includes a hard hitting, nine minute live cover of Jimi Hendrix' "Red House". If you are into supercharged contemporary bluesmen such as Pat Travers, Rick Derringer or Kevin Russell, you'll love Life In The Jungle - a great exmaple of meaty blues fueled with swaggering rock attitude. The Walter Trout Band were originally profiled in the October-November, 2002 edition of The Undiscovered.
A long-time Orange County, California resident, Walter was voted the sixth greatest guitarist of al time in a 1993 BBC radio poll, and is a 2001 winner of the Los Angeles Music Awards Guitarist Of The Year title. Like a lot of artists, he struggled mightily at first trying to get his career rolling, when in 1990, a ballad he wrote bacame a top 20 hit single. Later, Walter was able to play large venues in countries such as Denmark and Sweden, becoming immensely popular on the European continent. When returning to the United States however, he had to start all over; selling 20-30 tickets a show to finally selling out clubs. In 2001, his album "Go The Distance" debuted at No. 12 in the Billboard (Magazine) blues chart.
Trout continues to tour heavily behind each one of his new releases, frequenting the country's House Of Blues and Buddy Guy's Legends venues, as well as smaller clubs, such as the Minnesota Music Cafe in St. Paul, Minnesota.
